Bestway 1437 - an original vintage paper knitting pattern. The cover price is 3d (pre-decimal money), so this would date it to around the early/mid 1940s.

The pattern has been fold across the middle at some stage, a couple of the corners are a little bent and with the expected signs of age.  However its clean and free from any knitters markings.

Instructions to knit a lady's jumper with cables and three quarter length sleeves plus a matching beret. A very elegant style from the 1940s period.

One size only: 32" all round underarms, stretching to 35". The beret measured 22" round head edge and 10" diameter for the crown.

The original yarn used was Sirdar Super Shetland 3 ply wool, with a tension over the cable pattern of 9 rows to 1" and 3.5 sts to half an inch.  The tension over the yoke pattern is 9 rows to 1" and 8 sts to 1".

You should work a tension square before starting, changing your needle size if necessary to achieve the correct tension.
